Knights of Columbus Council 1429 handing out posters at the recent Life Chain in Sarnia. Council 1429 later provided refreshments to the participants at Our Lady of Mercy church hall.
Council 1429 pitches in with parishioners of St. Joseph church. The grounds around the church are being prepared for a landscaping project to include flower beds, new drainage and a sprinkler system. St Joe’s is one of 4 Sarnia parishes that Council 1429 is affiliated with. Thanks to Deputy Grand Knight Eric, his wife Ania and new 1st Degree Knight, Gui St. Germain, for lending their muscle and time!
As in years past, William E. Prentice Council 1429 continues its support of this very important festival each year. Seen leading the procession through the streets around our home base at Our Lady of Mercy church, is brother Knight Allan Mearns. Also representing the Council were Trustees Sean Jesso and David Rodrigues.
In co-ordination with the city-wide annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign, and in an effort to help fill two Sarnia Transit buses, Council 1429 joined their brothers in the St. Benedict’s Council initiative. Council members, led by Deputy Grand Knight Eric Madej and his wife Ania, cooked a BBQ lunch at the Superstore on Saturday July 7th 2018 (in exchange for donations of non-perishable foods and cash). Proceeds were donated to St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. Thanks to Maria and Jim Lelliveld, Paul and David Rodrigues Dan Gimpel and John from the other council! 😉
A “three peat” for Council 1429 and fulfilling the prophecy of Principal Rob Cicchelli two years ago, “The beginning of another “Irish” tradition“. Proceeds from this Pancake Tuesday fundraiser will be used to finance the Jim Lathem and other awards to deserving students who meet Council criteria of Christian principles.
Another sell-out event enjoyed by all the attendees.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul will be the main beneficiary as will our Coats for Kids campaign.
Thank you, in a very big way, to Joanna and Sam Giresi and her group of helpers for dishing out yet another grand, delicious 5 course, sit-down Italian dinner. Thanks to our High School and other student servers and Photo Booth volunteers [St. Patrick’s Catholic High School, Northern Collegiate, King George School] who did such an elegant job while having a good time themselves.
Thanks to the advertisers and other donors of gift baskets, door and/or spot prizes. Advertisements received exposure to about 200 attendees through announcements and on the slide show as well as the event brochure which is available by clicking on the link below:

Once again, spearheaded by Deanna and Dave Pirt, our Financial Secretary, and with the help of a few knights, we organized the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14.
Winners from this level move on to the district, regional, and state or provincial levels. From there, some make it to the international level for championship competition in their group.
